1. Get A Library Card
While some of the resources mentioned in this article do not require a library card, this is an essential for accessing some of the library’s most useful resources, including our physical collection. 2. Scholastic Teachables (Provided by Reading District Libraries)
Created by teachers and precisely leveled, our high‑quality, ready-to‑use resources from Scholastic Teachables support parents preparing kids for kindergarten readiness, homeschool teachers and learners from Pre-K to grade 6, and young patrons who need extra skills practice. Borrow eBooks and audiobooks for free with your library card! Audiobooks can be an easy way to fit more reading into busy school-day routines, whether you’re in the car, getting ready for bed, or taking a quiet break – perfect for students and parents or guardians alike! 4. Hoopla
Hoopla is another free digital collection of eBooks and audiobooks available to library members who work, go to school, or live in the City of Reading. Check out Hoopla’s Back to School collection for resources on required reading, learning routines, literacy, easing anxiety, and more. Educational BingePasses also offer opportunities for kids to learn and explore! 5. Power Library and Research Databases
Need help with a homework assignment or research project? Students can use a variety of research databases and tools available on our website. Most notably, Power Library’s online research resources can help students find trustworthy information on a wide range of subjects. Popular tools within Power Library Kids includes Bookflix and Britannica School, featuring video lessons, articles, popular children’s books, interactive games, and more.
Bonus: Power Library Kids offers a free language learning platform, KidSpeak, offering engaging curriculum in languages like Spanish, German, Chinese Mandarin, and more!
6. Homework and Study Spaces
Need somewhere quiet to focus? Our libraries offer spaces for homework, studying, reading, and school projects, as well as computers and printing.
7. Free Programs for All Ages
There are programs for everyone at our library. Our weekdays programs for little ones support early literacy, learning, and social development.
