Part 1 – History of the Tower and WPA Collection at the Southeast Library
Southeast Library
LIMITED PARKING AND SEATING! REGISTER NOW! Join local Skyline historians Corrie Crupi and Mike Reinert for an engaging talk on the early history of the Works Progress Administration property, followed by a Q&A on the Fire Tower grounds as you explore. Next, librarian Ryan Yanchocik will highlight materials from the Reading Public Library’s Works Progress Administration (WPA) and Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) collections, showcasing featured Mount Penn images from the publications. We will wrap up at the library with the official launch of the new Fire Tower website before heading up to the tower.
11:30 AM – 01:00 PM
Part 2 – Tower Climb and WPA Grounds Exploration at the Fire Tower
William Penn Memorial Fire Tower
Meet us at the summit for Part 2, where you can tour the historic tower, climb to the top for a stunning 60-mile view, and explore the WPA and CCC-built grounds—including the remains of the Gravity Railroad and Summit House hotel—with narration by Corrie and Mike. Tower Climbers get a Free “I Saved the Tower” Button for their climb while supplies last. Refreshments will be provided at the library, and exclusive vintage souvenir items will be available for purchase at the tower.
