Important Update Regarding Our Main Library Elevator
Dear library patrons,
We want to keep you informed about an important update regarding the elevator at Main Library.
Due to ongoing mechanical issues, our elevator is currently out of service. Based on the anticipated repair timeline, we expect it to remain out of service until January 2027.
This was not a decision made lightly, but rather one of public safety. Over the last two months, repairs and outages of our elevator have become more frequent, deteriorating significantly in a short time span and therefore posing a safety concern for patrons and staff.

We are grateful to the City of Reading for their support in addressing this project, and will provide an update on the timeline as we are able.
In the meantime, here’s how we’re making sure every patron can still access what they need:
• Our branches at Northeast, Northwest, and Southeast are fully accessible. You can request Main Library titles for delivery to any branch, and most of our services offered at Main (i.e. printing and scanning) are also available at these locations.
• Curbside service will be offered at Main. More details will be announced soon on what this model will look like for a variety of our services.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this outage may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. The safety of our patrons and staff remains our highest priority, and we are committed to restoring full access to Main Library as quickly as possible.
Please check our website and social media for updates as the project moves forward.
